July 23, Saturday at 2:30pm–4:30pm — Vajrasattva Empowerment with Tsok and Ngara Kangchak Vajrasattva is said to be the lord of all families and the embodiment of all buddhas. He is especially associated with the purification of negative karma and broken samayas and commitments. The empowerment Kyabgön Phakchok Rinpoche will bestow is for the practice of the single form of Vajrasattva known as Sangtik Dorsem from the Chokling Tersar (the New Treasures of Chokgyur Lingpa). The Narak Mending and Apology is renowned as one of the most powerful methods for purifying and mending one's downfalls and breakages of the vows of the three vehicles, and includes the practice of the one hundred peaceful and wrathful deities. It is a treasure text revealed by Guru Chowang and Nyang Ral Nyima Özer that was arranged by Jamyang Khyentse Wangpo, and is widely practiced by Nyingma and Kagyu practitioners alike. Kyabgön Phakchok Rinpoche will bestow these two precious empowerments during a single session, together with a feast offering. A feast offering is one of the most powerful and effective ways of gathering the accumulation of merit and purifying breaches of samaya. Chinese translation will be provided. Cost is $50. July 23, Saturday at 7:30pm — The Wisdom of Passing (Da Ka Yeshe Ki Do) (A short sutra Part 1) The Wisdom of Passing is a Mahayana sutra belonging to the third turning of the wheel of dharma, which presents the final and definitive teachings. This sutra is very short, but contains profound teachings on the view and meditation. It is a condensed version of the Nirvana Sutra and is one of the ten definitive-meaning, profound sutras, which were used specifically by proponents of the Other-empty school in Tibet. Cost is $50. July 24, Sunday at 2:00pm–4:00pm — Amitayus (Long-life Buddha) Empowerment Amitayus is the Buddha of Long Life. He is the sambhogakaya aspect of Amitabha, the Buddha of Limitless Light and Life. Amitayus is depicted as cradling a vase that contains the precious nectar of immortality, amrita, which confers longevity, and the leaves of the ashoka tree, which symbolize long life without the misery of disease. Sincere practice and devotion to Amitayus is said to help eliminate all obstacles to long life, such as sickness and pain. The practice of Amitayus is important because longevity provides us more time and opportunity to practice the Dharma, so we can ultimately achieve our goal liberation from samsara. Chinese translation will be provided. Cost is $50. July 27, Wednesday at 7:30pm — Chokgyur Lingpa’s Advice Chokgyur Lingpa (1829-1870) was one of the greatest treasure revealers (tertöns) to ever appear. The reincarnation of King Trisong Detsen s middle son, Yeshe Rolpa Tsal, he was a contemporary of Jamyang Khyentse Wangpo and Jamgön Kongtrul Lodrö Taye. Chokgyur Lingpa was the last of the one hundred major treasure revealers prophesied by Guru Rinpoche, the owner of seven transmissions, and is regarded as the universal monarch of all treasure revealers. His collected treasure teachings span forty large volumes and contain more than one hundred pages of his personal advice. Kyabgön Phakchok Rinpoche has selected several pages from this advice that he considers particularly helpful for practitioners. These selections of direct and heartfelt advice touch some of the most fundamental points of practice, and in this way are of benefit to all practitioners, whatever their level or background.
